This is Love

This – a verse in making

This – a love in waiting

This – a sky of rainbow

This – a tree of daffodils

This – a chandelier of constellations

This – a night of celebration

This – you in my arms

This – our moment of quietness

This – your scent on my pillow

This – your kiss on my lips

This – your gorgeous dark skin

This – your cute jawline pimple

This – your guiltless lassitude

This – your childlike attitude

This – our recurring arguments

This – our mismatched outlook

This - is us

This - is our world

I love it wholly

I adore it so much

A Sweet Decay

My love is as sweet as milk, honey, and cinnamon

They make me aromatic, pungent, and warm

I become like a piece of milk cake

Isn’t it your favourite of all?

You may decide to gulp it down

But I say – take it slow

Take a piece

Appreciate its beauty and shape

Understand its aroma

Close your eyes and memorise its taste

Let it melt in your mouth

Let it stop existing

Let it become a part of you

My Flawless Contradictions

I am this, I am that

I am half, I am full

I am difficult, I am easy

I am you, I am me

My wishes blend into each other

They take the shape of a bigger plan

They run after my instincts

And, without my knowledge,

I submit myself to the occasion

I become someone else

Someone less like my aware-self

More of an offshoot of my imagination

My contradictions run in plenty

They build me up

They tear me down

They teach me lessons

Some speak to me - all the time

Some deny my existence - all the time

Love Called

In the middle of the night, in a half-asleep state

Love called

Caressed my face

Kissed my earlobes

And woke me up

Spoke about love, hope, and loss

Of the times we danced, laughed, and fought

Then whispered in my ears –

“I am with you, always.”

I sighed

I smiled

I slept

Love kept making noises

Between a Laugh and Silence

Between a laugh and silence

I sighed

I sighed because it was comforting

It meant reassurance

Of something that was never a disappointment

That was our strength

That felt right

That meant us

Between a laugh and silence

I sighed

I sighed because I wanted to hold on to that moment

I wanted to look past our flaws

I wanted to feel your warmth

I wanted to sleep in your arms

Between a laugh and silence

I sighed

I sighed because that was the best thing to do

It encompassed my untold sentiments

It echoed your wintriness

And our entire story… in a sigh

A Mediocre Love – or Not

 I always knew the consequences

I always imagined where this would end

I always saw the red flag flying high

I always noticed the half-laughs

I always felt the pent-up tears

Yet

I always loved you

It is no mediocre love

It is beautiful as much as it is painful

It heals as much as it hurts

It cares as much as it shuns

It fills up as much as it hollows out

You may call it a mediocre love

I call it ‘extraordinary’
